Frequently Asked Questions
How our no-cost pest control referral service works, plus common questions about termites, rodents, and other pests.
Quick answers about how Ventura County Pest Pros works. For questions about a specific job, the provider you are connected with is the right person to ask.
How the service works
Is Ventura County Pest Pros a pest control company?
No. Ventura County Pest Pros is a no-cost referral service. We connect you with an independent local pest control company, and that business does the work, gives the estimate, and is responsible for its own license, products, and guarantees.
How much does it cost to use this service?
Nothing. Using the website and submitting a request cost you nothing, and you are never obligated to hire anyone. Providers support the service. See our referral disclosure for details.
How many companies will contact me?
We share your request with one independent local provider who serves your area.
Which areas do you cover?
Ventura County, including Ventura, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, the Oxnard beach communities, El Rio, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Oak Park, Lake Sherwood, Bell Canyon, Simi Valley, Moorpark, Somis, Saticoy, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Piru, Ojai, Meiners Oaks, and Oak View.
How do I check a provider?
Look up the pest control company's license at pestboard.ca.gov, check any repair contractor at cslb.ca.gov, and get a written inspection report and estimate before work starts.
Termites and pests
How do I know if I have termites?
Common signs are small hard pellets under windows or eaves, mud tubes on the foundation, discarded wings on sills, and hollow-sounding or damaged wood. An inspection confirms it.
What is the difference between drywood and subterranean termites?
Drywood termites live inside the wood and leave pellets. Subterranean termites live in the soil and build mud tubes. The treatment is different for each.
How long do we need to be out of the house for fumigation?
Usually a few days. The company gives you an exact schedule and must confirm gas levels are safe before you return.
Why do rats keep coming back?
Usually because entry points are still open. Sealing gaps with chew-resistant materials is what keeps them out.
What should I do about a bee swarm?
Keep people and pets away and don't disturb it. Many swarms leave within a day or two. If bees move into a wall or roof, call for removal.
Are bed bugs a sign of a dirty home?
No. Bed bugs travel in luggage, furniture, and bags and can show up anywhere. They usually need a professional plan.
